Global Time Attack (GTA) is a group made up of only the most competitive, fastest, and innovative street car racers that tour the country to push their cars to the limit. I had the opportunity to photograph this event as part of the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta Media team. My first time being to this track, I was impressed at the quality of the track and surrounding facilities. The Road Atlanta and GTA faculty were very professional and organized. GTA organized their race in a familiar manner: there are 4 different classes of cars: Unlimited, Limited, Street, and Enthusiast. Each class comes with its own requirements and specifications like tire size, suspension settings, and aero. The different classes would drive together for 20 minutes at a time and attempt to record the fastest lap time.
After each team gave it their all, a winner emerged from each class. For the Enthusiast class, Johnathan Wheeler with TRP racing ran his 370Z with a time of 1:42.529 around the track. In the Street class, PhD Racing took the win with their beautiful 'βTA90β Supra. The Supra was driven by Jackie Ding and made a time of 1:27.923, which is now the new Street Class Record for this track! This was one of two records set at this event. The second record was set in the Limited Class by Eric Fleming and his Z06 Corvette. In the Unlimited class, Derek Boyd with Halona Farms Racing piloted their Evolution X around the track with a lap time of 01:27.584.
